We contacted KB Pools because we purchased a beautiful home in Spanish Oaks that had an aging, less than sexy pool and an unusable Cedar Forest on a seriously sloped backyard. Bo Barnett came over and after only a few minutes of talking it became obvious that Bo is a serious artist. Bo has incredible vision and after only a quick look around began describing what the possibilities were and what he could envision for both the pool and backyard. We were blown away at his suggestions and ultimately we couldn’t wait to get to work. Bo’s landscaper Carlos built the most incredible stone walls that took our uneven yard into three separate flat levels with beautiful stone steps and two huge areas of turf. We were shook by the results and everyone who sees it is amazed by the transformation. Bo took an old school rectangle pool, completed removed it and replaced it with a 2023 Southwest Pool and Spa show winner of a Gold Award and also the coveted Best Of Show Award that has never before been given to a pool remodel! We now have a breathtaking zero edge pool with gigantic eight person hot tub. We have fountains, waterfalls and two amazing fire features along with floating steps to the hot tub! We never imagined the pool would turn out like this! All our equipment is the latest technology all controlled via our smartphone app. Special mention to Kenny Blythe who was always available to come out and show us something and always had a great story for us! Our weekly pool guy never fails to mention that our pool is the most sophisticated and most beautiful that he gets to maintain. Bo also replaced our entire deck with beautiful porcelain tile that has a wood plank appearance. We are relocating to Utah for business but will never forget the job Bo and KB Pools did and our amazing renovation story! In December of 2021, we started discussing pools with Joshua with KB Custom pools. In our discussion, I made it very clear in writing that I would not sign the contract for a pool until we knew the design would be approved. No reason to pay a down payment for something that can’t be built.Joshua, in writing, claimed that “if the pool was not approved for any reason they would refund our down payment.” Expecting Joshua and the owner of KB custom pools to honor their word, I moved forward and paid a downpayment.Fast forward a few months, It became apparent that the pool we wanted to build and the equipment we wanted to use would not work on our lot. What we had signed a contract for, was not obtainable. I went back to Joshua and asked for my refund. Even offering to take less than 100% to cover some of their expenses for permits etc.This request was quickly denied by the owner Bo Barnett. Not only did Bo refuse to refund the money, but he also refused to honor anything his employee had said or had written. He actually said on tape speaking about Joshua his top sales guy “he knows that’s not our operating procedure. And if that’s the way selling pools, he won’t do it here.” If Joshua is still working at KB pools, it is just another example of how Bo talks out of the side of his mouth.The bottom line is I have no idea if KB custom Pools can build a pool or not. I have heard they have so many unfinished pools in Lakeway that they had to take out a special bond to get more permits. So it sounds like they can’tThe bottom line is the owner does not honor the promises his employees make. Which is a HUGE red flag. If you are thinking about using KB custom pools, don’t talk to anyone but Bo, and make sure all your calls are recorded and everything is in writing. And just get an Attorney from the start.Update 7/7/2022: In response to the owner of KB Custom Pools response to my email. First, don’t believe him. Bo has never given me a way to cancel the contract. He has never honored his employees statement that we could have our money back “no questions asked”. I still can’t get the required permits to complete the project. Bo will tell you that he can build the pool, and that is true. But we had hired him to build a pool with a propane heated spa, which he can not get permits for. Unfortunately this project took too long and now we are in Stage 3 water restrictions. Which means we could not fill the pool once it was built. Anyway, again do yourself a favor, find another pool company. This one is not honorable and will not stand by their statements they make in writing. Don’t give them any money. Oh and check out the amazing photo of the pool they did not build.

Terrible communication and project management of the build of our pool and now with the cracks and leaks.We have had ongoing cracks that are over a foot deep in our spa and now spreading into the pool. We paid $3000 out our own pocket to replaster the spa and with 3 months the cracks returned.Upon further testing and coring our spa and pool the cracks extend deep beyond just a cosmetic defect like Bo claims. The test results indicate normal concrete so it appears to be a workmanship issue as no rebar was used in the seats.There are multiple pools built by KB with the same issues.

We were referred to KB Pools by our daughter. We sat down with Bo to discuss what possibilities if any, we had in our fairly small backyard. Bo had a very positive outlook on what his company could do for us. My husband and I both enjoy swimming. Bo designed a pool we could swim laps and also have additional space to have our grandkids and friends enjoy as well. Every morning when we pull up our blinds and see the beautiful blue water glistening in the sun, we both smile and are so grateful. Thanks to Bo, Justin, and Ken, and the great crew at KB pools!

We loved working with Bo. They were on top from the very first time we met. They took our vision and came up with a design we needed for our backyard. We had previously seen other pool designers which gave us ok designs but not suited for a family with 4 little kids. Kb Custom Pools not only designed our dream pool but also gave the best service, always answered our calls and emails. Unfortunately we couldn’t build the pool (financial reasons) but when we are ready to do it we’ll do it with Bo and his team

If you are considering a pool in Austin, Call Justin at KB Custom Pools. They are masters at design and have a great crew. I spoke with several builders and crews in Austin, but couldn’t be happier working with Justin and his team. He consistently over delivered on the project and managed the project like a pro. These guys made me feel like I was part of the family. I highly recommend speaking with them if you are considering a pool.

** I’m not getting into a back and forth w/Bo on here. Per him “the first step is to diagnose the exact cause and location of the leak”. Our pool has been leaking for 24 months & Bo hasn’t done what he says is the first step? Yet he’s “prepared to help”? Okay… He never offered to send a leak detection company until we got to the point of mediation being scheduled, even though we’ve asked for one previously. We have no reason to lie about the engineer report or anything else. We have spent thousands(upon thousands)of dollars on engineer reports, testing, and after 19 months, an attorney, to get this resolved. We’ve been nothing but kind and patient and to say this is about money?? Good luck if you build with KB.7/29 update: leak isn’t alleged.Engineer says what deficiencies there are. Bo’s leak detection people trespassed yesterday-bo has had 2 years to do testing and has been told his time to test is up. We are not in this to make money, we want our pool fixed.Nov 2017-pool completeJuly 2019 (20m later)-inform Bo the pool was cracking and leaking. He said hairline cracks were normal-they were not hairline and pool was leaking. While there was some communication,there were mostly long stretches where we were ignoredAug 2020 (13m after being notified of leak)-repair attempted that included replacing stone & tile that had cracked, resurfacing the spa, putting staples and epoxy on other parts of poolPost repair-pool never stopped leaking and within weeks, everything was cracked again. We lose inches of water every week (not evaporation, our pool lost 2in of water when it was 10° outside). We also now have a pool with 2 different colors of plaster and were told by Bo we would be responsible for paying $10k to replaster entire pool if we weren’t happyAfter several months waiting for another plan and still being mostly ignored, we informed Bo we were hiring a structural engineer as we felt nothing was being done. His response-“well that will be very expensive for you.” Bo is obviously not concerned with fixing our pool and the fact that we were willing to pay $1400 out of pocket to an engineer and hope for answers speaks to our desperation to get our pool fixed and the lack of support we were receiving from our pool builder (Bo) whose responsibility it was to fix it. We gave engineer pictures of our pool before concrete was sprayed and he immediately noted several areas where the rebar was missing important structural elements. He took measurements and pictures, and put together a formal report for us of what needed to be done to repair the issues so that it wouldn’t crack again. The report includes rebuilding the entire spa, a large portion of the pool, part of the back wall that is above ground where there are several leaks, and part of the deck. Bo is now denying it, but had told us when we mentioned getting an attorney due to lack of any progress toward fixing our pool that he would follow the engineers recommended plan of how to repair it.19m after this started, 6m after a failed repair attempt, and a couple of months after we informed Bo we would be hiring an engineer, he comes to look at our pool, seems surprised to see how badly it’s cracked, and tells us he is now sending in a concrete guy that he just met the previous week (but now he’s an integral part of fixing our pool?) and will see what he has to say before he comes up with a plan to repair our leak. This is typical Bo. There is always an excuse for why he doesn’t fix something/have people show up when they’re supposed to/etc. Bo has yet to acknowledge that there are structural issues w/poolAt 19 months in, having been beyond patient in waiting & dealing w/lack of attention from Bo to solve our problem, we hired an attorney which Bo told us was a mistake to do & would prolong the process by months if not years. I’m sure you can imagine how cooperative he’s been.As of the date of this review, the pool has been leaking for 23 months.Details on process w/attorneys and pics on Yelp under filtered reviews Sarah L (out of space on here)

Justin is very professional and knowledgeable on anything pools! He is very courteous and communicated well with his crew making sure they knew exactly what he was wanting them to do. Bo Barnett feels like that last geuine person who prides himself on good old fashion custom service. I had a dream. He took his time to drive 1hr and 45 minutes for free to listen to my dream for my company. He walked into completely undeveloped land. His design was more than I imagined and check all the boxes. To this day he has stood by the Zen Ranch patiently waiting to build the best pool and spa in Texas. His estimate was realistic and rational so I wouldn’t have to constantly deal with price increases. This provides the opportunity to trust and completely enjoy the experience of the dream pool being built. He is now a friend who would be the only one I could trust with my money and my dream. We have had our KB pool for 3 years now. It is beautiful and low maintenance. The team did great job on the pool and patio design. The best part is we have had zero issues. In fact, the only issue we had was this week when a capacitor fizzled out on the pump. I pinged KB online, got a response from Bo in <5 minutes and Ken (who is the nicest guy on the planet) was out to fix it the very next morning. You rarely find service like that. Nice work KB.

We had an existing pool built by another builder who used inexpensive materials that did not stand up to normal wear and tear over 3 years. Bo and his team replaced our pool coping with higher quality materials and did an outstanding job! The work was completed quickly and economically, for a first class outcome. We even messed up some caulking by letting our dogs walk on the coping before it had fully cured, and Bo quickly took care of it at no additional cost. Bo is strong sense of ethics and delivered what he promised at the price he promised. Thanks for a great job Bo and team!

We interviewed several pool companies and ended up asking two custom pool companies for their design(s) / pricing. After receiving their designs / pricing including taking into account each companies time spent at our home, asking my wife and I questions concerning our ideas & budget, KB custom pools team was the clear winner. Their were many variables over and above designs / pricing we took into account and KB definitely came out on top. I highly recommend Bo and the whole KB team.

We love our pool! We started the process of searching for a builder last October and I am so happy that we selected KB Pools! They officially started to dig January 26 and we were filling up on Mother’s Day! Bo and Ken were responsive and truly care. There were the normal snags of weather and contractor timing that you’re going to run into with any outdoor project, but, they communicated with me through the whole process when I reached out. Bo and Ken spent time working on ideas to make our grotto perfect all while we were able to swim all summer! Each time I would talk to Bo he stressed the importance of us loving the final product and that they would make sure we got to that point! We definitely did!I also have to point out that as the pool girl I am so happy with the equipment and ease of use! The system that they installed has been very user friendly and made my job of keeping up the pool easy considering I have never had a pool before!Lastly, we love our cabana and outdoor kitchen! Outdoor experience that was built by KB Pools is like having a 5-Star Resort put right into your backyard. Anyone that sees it says it’s the most amazing pool they’ve ever seen. We have two pools (one deep and one sport pool) combined with a separate chiller spa, giant hot tub and outdoor kitchen that has everything! It’s the ultimate fun and entertaining environment designed by KB Pools!

Talked at length on the phone with “Bo” set an appointment, I phoned to confirm on the day of the appointment, no answer, left a message, no return call, and a no show! Finally got ahold of “Bo” an hour after the no show appointment, he says he remembers the phone call, didn’t write us down, just forgot!? Competely unprofessional!

We were very pleased with the design process. We talked to 3 different companies, and KB Custom Pools was the only contractor that delivered 3 different designs after the initial visit. That allowed us to pick what we loved and hated about each design so the 4th and final design was exactly what we wanted but maybe hadn’t even considered before.

Excellent Pool Builder, they completed the project on time. The owner Bo Barnet assisted me years later with replacing one of my expensive LED lights through the warranty program. I would used this company again for future pool builds.
